Awesome,

By Wildernessman "SElliot" (Boulder Creek, Ca. USA) - See all my reviews
Of all the Rambo movies this one is the best. The most violent, brutal stunning movie I have ever seen. Emotionally draining story of some do gooders that want to take medicine and help to a group of poor opressed people in Burma. They are under control of the brutal military that wants no one to hear this story let alone help these people. The do gooders talk Rambo into taking them up river to the settlement. He is reluctant to take them but the woman with the group talks him into taking them. Of course they are taken by the military and most everyone in the village is slaughtered. Someone from back home comes looking for them when they never return home. Rambo takes a band of merceneries to the settlement to bring them back. The do-gooders are held captive and tortured. It's nonstop heartpounding action after Rambo gets there.
Iv'e never seen anything like the violence in this movie. It's incredible.
It's filmed in Burma and the cinemaphotography is outstanding. Beautiful scenery. Good use of light and dark and camera angles. Very well done.
Be prepared for the violence because it is extreme. What's shown in this movie is going on there as I speak. We don't hear the story in the media. Stallone made this movie with Burmese people as actors and they were all at risk making this movie. Stallone still has it at 61 years.

Great WorkOut!,

April 26, 2008
Okay, when I first started this program I did not think that I was really going to get a real workout. I was wrong! I completed one part of this program which by the way, there are (4) exercise routines in this program.
You will definitely work up a sweat if you are just beginning to exercise. I think that you will work up a sweat if you are not a beginner; however, I usually do two workouts to get a really good sweat from this dvd. Enjoy!

I found it interesting how a few people who rated this product said it was not challenging and some didn't even break a sweat. I have been taking kicboxing for almost three years now, and I don't mind the "taobo billy blanks kickboxing either." Real one on one using gloves and kicking shields, etc. I believe; if your into your workout you can sweat to anything. But, having fun while sweating is different. When I do kickboxing I have fun, but it takes alot of thinking when your involved with that. With turbojam you just go with the flow. I would suggest this program to anyone with ANY level of fitness. It's fun to release some stress and helps if you don't have time to run to the gym. You don't need much room either to do this workout, so that is even better.

Classy,

January 4, 2008
Phantasy is not my favorite genre, definitely not in printed form (couldn't even handle the Lord of the Rings), and hardly in movies (except Lord of the Rings). Potter is mediocrity itself, and Narnia was a bit too sweetish with its good Jesusy lion. I did not bother with other recent phantasy movies.
This one attracted me because there was some religious propaganda against it. Apparently some good Christians think that the story is anti-Christian. Well, let them. Not a relevant attack, in my view, but of course a soul outside its body is reason for concern to the literalists.
The story is definitely different and it is charmingly free from sentimentality and cuteness. Kidmann is great as the bad guy. The polar bear beats Knut, the star of Berlin zoo. The story has a strong libertarian flavor, nothing wrong with it. The fight is against a pre-fascist government structure which suppresses knowledge and individuality. I saw nothing remotely justifying an uproar from proper religious points of view.
P.S. in the meantime, a friend has convinced me that the author of the book does indeed stand for odd views. I still think that the movie is free of those.

I originally saw this movie in the theatre and loved it so much that I pre-ordered on Amazon. There aren't too many movies that can bring a tear to your eye and make you fall in love with all of the character's, while making you feel like you are experiencing their heartbreak and sharing in their joy. Excellent performance by Hillary Swank and cast.

Aliens vs. Predator - Requiem (Unrated Edition)

DVD Movie Store COllection

For those who found 2004's Aliens vs. Predator too lightweight in the gore-and-guns department, Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem offers a marked improvement in both categories, as well as a respectable amount of rumbles between the title extraterrestrials. Set in the 21st century (which predates the story to all of the Alien features), Requiem sends a crippled Predator ship crashing to Earth in a small Colorado town; unbeknownst to the locals, the craft is loaded with H.R. Giger's insectoid monsters, which make quick work of most of the population. As the human cast is slowly whittled to a few hardy (if unmemorable) souls, a Predator warrior also arrives to complicate matters and do battle with the Aliens, as well as a ferocious alien-Predator hybrid (dubbed a Predalien by the sci-fi and horror press). Visual-effects designers and music-video helmers The Strause Brothers (who make their feature directorial debut here) keep the action on frantic throughout, which is wise, since the dialogue and characters are threadbare at best; that should matter little to teenage male viewers, who are inarguably the film's key audience. Fans of the Alien franchise, however, may find the offhanded nod to the series' mythology given during the finale its sole saving grace. --Paul Gaita

See This With Your Girlfriends,

February 15, 2008
C'mon...it's not rocket science and it's not meant to be. After a week of having husbands and kids drive us crazy, my best friend and I ran away from home to see this and agreed we hadn't laughed so hard in months! We laughed the whole way through. Mission accomplished...escapism at its best! Katherine Heigl is adorable in this and hey, for us harried mothers, just getting to watch Ed Burns and James Marsden for 90 minutes is worth the ticket (or DVD) price alone. They're pretty yummy to watch! Leave the husband/boyfriends at home for this one and have a girls' night out. Guys don't get the humor in watching Jane hold her friends' wedding dresses when they have to pee at their wedding receptions. Girls get it. The writing is witty with plenty of hilarious one-liners. Jane is everyone's best friend and you'll wish she was one of yours, too. This DVD will get added to my collection of predictable romantic comedies because it can hold its own with the best of them!

Alas another great show faces extinction. What is wrong with America, I am so tired of REALITY shows. Give me a good drama with REAL emotion any day. Hopefully a deal comes through and we get FNL back for another season. I got everyone I know to watch FNL and they are all fans now, and all mad at me for getting them hooked on something GOOD which is facing the chopping block. WAKE UP NBC, stop trying to be like the other networks, set yourself apart, grow some cajones and be different. You have shows like Medium,ER,FNL, and..........come on now surprise us...

If you have even been to congress this is how they really do things. Great story and even better acting by all three, Philp Hoffman ties it all together with a performance second to none. The writing is Funny and uplifting. And yes I agree they should have called it Ronald Reagans War but lets face it if hollywood was right on every time we would only have one new movie a year.

Details for the mis-informed,

July 19, 2007
By Steven Charles Grauman "Steven Grauman" (Agoura Hills, CA United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Let me clear the air about this film; During the early 1990s, Warner Brothers saw a renewed interest in the film, and had screened the American theatrical cut for audiences in select markets to great fanfare. The film had not been succesful upon its release in 1982, and WB was eager to turn a new profit from it. Ridley Scott had been hampered by budgetary and timing confilcts during the entire production of the film, and complained that he was not given complete control over the film's final edit; he had not wanted the studio-imposed Harrison Ford voice-over and was upset at the forcible removal of scenes he felt were neccesary.
In 1992, he was approached by the studio with the chance to cut a more definitive version of the film, minus the voice over and with any additional content that Scott wished to re-insert. Scott took the offer, but became entangled with the shooting of "Thelma and Louise" and could not be present during the editing process. In lou of his presence, Scott authorized the studio to have a restorationist re-assemble the film for him, and he provided them with notes and other information on how he wished the film to be edited. Point in case: Scott *was* involved with the editing of the film, albeit in an indirect way.
Despite the work, Scott continued to maintain that studio interference and his involvment with Thelma and Louise had prevented him from cutting the film entirely the way he wanted; that's part of why this upcoming set is being produced. The set will reportedly include the American and European Theatrical cuts (the European cut had about 2 minutes of extra footage), the 1992 "Director's Cut" and (hopefully) a final, definitive cut of the film, all remastered with digital sound.

Cloverfield (2008)

Great on the big screen,

April 24, 2008
By Adam (Minneapolis, MN USA) - See all my reviews
Cloverfield tends to be met with mixed reviews, but all in all I thought it was a great movie. It is essentially the journey of four New Yorkers through a Manhattan that is under attack by a Godzilla-like monster, taken from the perspective of a handheld camcorder that is carried with. While the actors are far from well known, I feel that it gave the film a genuine feel. Seeing Brad Pitt running around just doesn't make it feel real, honestly. Some people were not fans of the camcorder, as it tends to get a little wild during action sequences, but I think its usage made the film truly unique. It's filmed nearly as live-action--that is, it's like watching your own home video, except with a monster frolicking around.

I definitely recommend this movie. I will say, though, that it is far better to watch in the theaters or on a big screen TV with surround sound. If you're watching it for the first time, a 13-inch TV just doesn't draw you in as well.

I first purchased the sound track before seeing the movie and instantly fell in love with it's luring music. I knew that the movie had to be as wonderful as the sound track. It's a great tale of over coming ones fears, friendship and dealing with the reality of lose and death. It contains a little bit of old magic and Scottish folklore that even adults will want to believe in. A magical family adventure!

By Paonia Dan (Western Colorado) - See all my reviews
Saw this around Christmas and still think about it. Basically, excellent acting, storyline and script. The eerie part is that it seemed so real ... one gets lost inside this movie quickly. Not a fun film as it descends from one bad move to deeper darker situations. So many mediocre movies being touted today and yet smaller films like this are totally ignored. I call this excellent film making and it is my favorite film from 2007. So where are the nominations? Again, excellent direction, cast efforts and riveting tale of just how wrong things can go.

This is what Lars Lindstrom (Ryan Gosling) tells Bianca after he gives her flowers. These few words, more than anything else in the film, typify the unconscious reason for Lars' reticence in dealing with others.

Lars lives in the garage of the home he and his older brother Gus (Paul Schneider) inherited from their father. While Gus managed to overcome their mother's death, Lars never could.

When a co-worker shows Lars an Internet ad for "Love Dolls", Lars rescues "Bianca" and brings her home. It's not what you expect, Lars' intentions are honorable. He's working through a psychosis.

When his family and the town realize what's happening, they quickly take Bianca to their bosom. In short order, she gets a job as a model at the mall, a slot reading to children and she's elected to the town school board! (Brilliant move, if I must say so)

Ryan Gosling does an amazing job as the withdrawn Lars and the rest of the cast is outstanding as well. I seriously doubt any real town would embrace a member who was bringing around a lifesize doll--but some part of me would like to think there are places like this in the world.

Very Original!,

January 11, 2008
When I was a young man running my first rig in the Oil Fields in Kern county California, was having trouble with doing jobs faster than the other crews I worked with. One day the man who trained me pulled me aside and said "You don't get it... They don't want good operators, they want good liars".

In this wonderfully written and acted series, Minnie Driver and Eddie Izzard test that theory, in the world of the upper class, by "stealing the American dream". This series brings the public to a mostly unknown hidden culture in America of the Travelers (Irish Gypsies) which is something cool in a TV show, going so far out of the box of regular TV writing it's in another warehouse.

If you want something very different, "The Riches" is a show for you.

Best Comedy Mini-Series Out There,

August 28, 2007

The Office series for me would be something like saying 'You had me at episode four.' That was the first season.
If I was rating the second seaon, this review would probably have 5 stars above.
The third season was awesome; but it left me hoping for a little bit more. It did, however, contained some of the best episodes I have seen in a romantic comedy series ever.
I really thought Seinfeld was unbeatable as a comedy and for those of you who still do so please watch 'The Breakup' on this DVD set.
In a sense reviewing the Office Season Three is fruitless in that you have to see the first two seasons first; there is no way around it.
For a commedy that portrays characters so shallow and single minded, there are extremely important core values at the workplace portrayed thoughtout the season. You also have your cliffhangers and character development, and plot points so beautifully coordinated that it only takes a few short scenes to sum up episodes worth of build up. Now what surprises you the most is the fact that most episodes include scenes and passages that you really don't pay much attention to; scenes that build up to a season cliffhanger that really surprises the heck our of you.
I have not seen the BBC version of The Office nor would I ever understand how is that important to the US version. I don't see where you can get a BBC channel other than a 5 star hotel so WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO COMPARE IT?
The Office (US Version) is one heck of a TV series. Do watch it for fun, you'll laugh all the way to the end.

This show was not suppose to be a hit, lol. The original pilot was supposedly so convoluted and downright annoying that the network made the producers basically change everything about it, and the only reason the show was greenlite was because NBC ran out of Drama pilots. But somehow, the new pilot was downright amazing, and a new hit television show was born.

This DVD box set includes all 23 season-one episodes on 7 discs along with several behind-the-scenes featurettes, mini-documentaries, 50 deleted scenes, select episode commentaries, the original pilot (w/ commentary), and a character map.
